Instructors of new cooking program recognized
In January, Health Services of Northern New York, Inc. (HSNNY) implemented a new cooking class for all of our Personal Care Aides to give them an opportunity to collaborate with other aides on tips and techniques of cooking while in a clients home.HSNNY Registered Dietician Beth Morgan worked with our clinical nursing staff to develop a program that would train a core group of Home Health Aides that then trained our entire aide staff.
Through this program aides had an opportunity to talk about their experiences with cooking in clients homes and how they handled a variety of situations. The instructors would facilitate those conversations and then teach them a variety of tips and techniques to improve food quality and efficiency.Ultimately, these classes helped Health Services of Northern New York, Inc. improve our customer satisfaction cooking score by over 30% since the beginning of the year.
Instructors Laurie Beamis, Fran Marshall, Donna Ripa, and Cathy Thomas spent several hours grocery shopping, traveling, preparing, and teaching our entire aide staff in the cooking classes."The success of this program is in large part due to the willingness and dedication of our class instructors," says Kathy Cootware, Assistant Director of Clinical Services "we are so grateful to have such a wonderful and dedicated staff." All four instructors were nominated and granted an accountability pin awarded by our corporate office, The Hamister Group.
